Day 27 in Villisca

We didn’t get as much done yesterday as I’d hoped because we spent a long time running around Red Oak.
First we pulled the tub so we could see what bits we’d need to put it back.

It was just untreated plywood around it. No wonder the paint peeled!

For those wondering why we would pull a tub and put it right back, it’s because they had it jacked up on that board in order to fit plumbing that was too tall.

So technically all we needed to do was yank that board, cut deeper into the sub floor and then shorten the pipe a smidge. However hubby and the brother decided to change the nobs/faucet/shower head (into a one hole configuration from the current three hole, meaning we need a Smitty plate which no one sells – more on that later) and replace the plumbing. This is what caused us to run all over the place from store to store looking for things.
Please enjoy some random Red Oak photos.
So back to the tub and the plate. No one in town had one, so we finally resorted to buying a piece of metal to make our own. I made a template:
of course it's made out of a pudding box. What else would you use?

And hubby cut it or but alas we do not have a metal file, so he has go get one. Meanwhile we still worked on the plumbing.

Also of note is that locked door. Will, a friend from Springfield, loaned hubby a ring of skeleton keys.

And now the door is unlocked! Not opened, because the &^%$ carpet is in the way, but at least unlocked.
it opens!

This would be better but WP is giving me a headache, so this has taken so long to do that  now I need to go get to work again, but I leave you with some pretty photos of roses.

Have a good one!

Jo 🙂
