Floor Scrapings

As the title suggests, I spent the day scraping the floor in my bedroom. Well, mine and Hubby’s bedroom. Why was I scraping it? Because it was time to get that horrible, funny smelling carpet out of there.
But when I peeled it up….
I originally tried only doing half the room at a time, but there was so much dust that I had to finish emptying the room and doing it all at once.
Anyway, after hours of scraping and sweeping and scraping it’s all gone.
And no, the floor is not a good floor. It’s not going to look nice refinished, and it’s splintery, but it’s still an improvement. And when we get ready to paint the room, we’ll just paint the floor too, like everyone else had been doing since 1889.
And now I am going to bed. Have a good one.
Jo 🙂

Is there a magic significance about 1889? It is true it was the last year of the 1880s and in New Zealand was the year the first Liberal government was elected that was to do so many advanced things like give women the vote (1893), a little while before the English and the Yanks got round to it. But floors…not sure.
The planks look wide enough that they should be ok wood for refinishing but the trouble with refinishing is that the insulating properties of carpet are lost. If you are cold in the night…
Anyway very good work there Jo. Now – about that hay bale art contest…it’s time to be thinking about it…
1889 is when they built the place so I assume the wood up there is that old. I suppose it depends on if they built it all at once… Apparently it was also a big year for Sherlock Holmes: http://www.historyorb.com/events/date/1889
