Today was not very exciting. I finished my paperback formatting of Patrick, did some various online stuff, and tried my jamberry nail decals finally.
That’s about it. Oh, except the fuzzy rat. I’ll try to remember to take a pic of him tomorrow.
And now it’s bed time.
Have a jamberry kind of day!
Jonathan and I are selling autographed prints of the Terrible Turtle Conspiracy comic (20$ includes S&H). We’re taking the first round to the Book Born retreat in Michigan on Monday, where we’ll autograph them.
As for the retreat, I guess I haven’t mentioned it before. Book Born is an awesome facebook readers and authors group. Back in June (just when we started saving to paint our house, ha ha!) Christine came up with the awesome idea of renting a lodge on one of the Great Lakes and getting together for three days.
Fastforward to now, and we leave Monday morning. We’ll drive all day, get a motel, then finish the trip Tuesday and arrive to meet everyone – including the aforementioned Jonathan who I have collaborated on a million things with over the years. The funny thing is, people think we’re related, but we’ve never even met in real life. So, this will be a first, that we are celebrating with a live Terrible Turtles Broadcast on Tuesday. Readers can PM their questions on facebook and I’ll throw them at Jonathan during our live appearance. It is going to be fun.
Past that there are a lot of plans. There’s a dark space park an hour away that looks cool, there’s a lighthouse, there are foreign pokemon I need to catch, there’s talk of a bonfire, we might watch a movie, there may be some book discussion, we’re going to head into the nearest town for lunch on Wednesday…My only plan is the TTC video, some pokemon, and at some point I am hitting up that lighthouse with a camera.
The retreat ends Wednesday, but we’re hoping not to be home until Sunday. It’s going to depend on how much money we have left, but if there is enough we thought about going to New York for one night, and then heading home through Ohio (I think there may be the tiniest corner of Pennsylvania, too), just to say we’ve been to those states. Bust, as I said, it depends on whether we can eat and sleep cheap. And since there’s three of us…
In other news, Brothers of Darkness is formatted and uploaded. I may run through it again real quick and check something I forgot about (a formatting issue), and I need to finish the paperback version. That’s on the list for tomorrow; that and digging up stuff to pack, since I need to go to bed super early Sunday.
And speaking of bed, I should head there now.
Have an autographed comic kind of day!
Yes, you read that right, the house is done being painted!! Here’s a little before and after action for you:
Next year, as I mentioned before, we’ll get the trim painted. The main thing is, the house no longer looks abandoned. The painters were awesome, though I mostly left them alone because I know how annoying it is when people get in your business while you’re working. I hope that was the proper etiquette and I didn’t come off rude or something. I don’t know, growing up we had steal siding so we never had anyone paint, or do any maintenance jobs, we did it ourselves or had family help, so I really have zero experience in this stuff.
Anyway, if you’re looking for house painters in the area, I can recommend them.
And now my anti anxiety pills are finally working and making me tired, so I’m going to bed.
Have a painted kind of day!
Not blue as in the feeling, but blue as in the color. The painters came back today and the front of the house is now blue!
It doesn’t really look blue in that picture, but I promise it is. They also got the side painted, though the only pics I took of it was when it was just the primer:
But even just [rimer is an improvement. I can’t wait until next year when we get to have the trim painted 🙂 I need to find out how much they’ll charge for it. It’s too bad Jarod can’t do ladders anymore because I hear he’s a whiz with a paint brush, and I’d rather money goes to family, but I don’t blame him. If I any of us ladders we wouldn’t need to pay someone.
Mom had her rehab today, so it was me and dad for lunch. That means I don’t get my shake because he usually nips down to the grocery store and buys something before I get to it. Today e went to the cafe instead. I was tempted to skip it – all the extra calories, and the time it takes (especially when I have so much to get done) but hey, the man is 78. One of these days I’ll be wishing I could pile on the extra calories to go eat lunch with him.
Anyway, the cafe has new menus:
Pretty snazzy, huh? Anytime I take a photo anywhere now, google maps wants me to add it to their database, including this one. It’s kind of fun, so I do it sometimes. In fact I took these just to add to it:
We also bleached my hair again tonight. it’s STILL not pale blonde, but it;s getting a funky texture so this is the best it’s going to get. I don’t want to fry it. We’ll put the color in tomorrow and see how it looks.
Other than that, I have edited today. I took out about 1500 words by deleting extra suddenlies, justs, nows, seems, somehows, thats, hads, and so on. However I can only concentrate on murdering one word at a time, so for each word on my “get rid of” list I have to use find and comb the whole thing over and over. I’ve read the end six times today. Boo!
And that’s really all I’ve got. So, have a blue paint kinda day!
Today was pretty uneventful. Hubby and I went to Council Bluffs and bought wood from menards so he could make the cover for the truck. (Since we’re going to Minnesota next week, we have to put all our luggage in the back. To protect it, hubby has designed a sort of lid for the truck bed – not a topper because it doesn’t stick up, but anyway, he;s finally getting started on it now that we’re down to the last minute. So after we got back, while he worked on that, I got caught up on some computer things, including a couple of covers, and made my new icon for facebook:
Now to get the final editing done. I’m going to work on it this week – which is why I will be pretty much MIA. I’ve been through all the awesome feedback from my betas and even chopped a scene, so now I just need to cut words and double check for things to make sense and line up, and check again for typos… You know, all the fun, fun stuff.
The only exciting thing today, I think, is that the brother scalped me. Okay, not really, but he did try to fix my hair cut, and os it’s ended up very short. The last time it was this short, I was three years old and my mom had my hair cut off because I threw a fit about having it brushed. Anyway, after an hour of that, we tried putting in the red and blue, but I don’t think we bleached it light enough last night because it’s not showing up. So, it looks like we’ll do another round tomorrow. Something to look forward to.
And now I leave you with some bloody gloves:
Okay, not really. It’s the hair dye, but it sure looks like it.
Have a good one,
As you can see, it’s not my book, but it is my cover – and one I really like, namely because I got to do 100% what I wanted with it. I think those are always the best kind. Now if someone would only pay me to design exactly what I want…

Happy Saturday! Or rather Sunday now, since I am always behind on doing everything *sigh*.
Today we had a family picnic at Hacklebarney Park. Hubby and I went and looked around it once shortly after we moved here, though at the time everything was under water, so we didn’t spend any time there. Funny, because it’s only a few minutes from us. The even funnier part is we’re not the ones who picked the location, my cousin did.
Anyway, it’s a nice park. We claimed the shelter, so it had bathrooms and it was near the lake/pond. I took the good camera but I haven’t had time to look through the pics or take them off, so you just get cell phone shots. Also of note: I am lousy at photographing people, so there are like four pictures of people and that’s it, though I promise you my family was really there and aren’t imaginary.
In other news, I dyed my hair blonde tonight – or rather hubby did – but it did NOT get rid of the *&^% green! It faded it a little bit, but the green is still clinging. It was good when I first put it in about 100 washes ago. At the time it was aqua:
Now it’s only present along the bottom portion of some of my hair, and it’s faded to the color the Titanic is now – that undersea, corroded metal color…I’d hoped the blonde would get rid of it, but it didn’t, so we’re going to try putting magenta over the top. That should do something. I’d take a pic of it’s current state, but it looks flat because of just dying it, and I’m too lazy to make it look good.
We also watched Crimson Peek tonight, the last of the movies we rented from Red Oak. It was goooood! Really good. It was soooo classic gothic that I got a huge kick out of it – I loved gothic novels when I was a teenager, and I suppose they have probably colored my opinion of horror and creepy and all the rest, as nothing is creepier than some huge old crumbling gothic mansion perched on the moores or on a cliff, some dark secret shuttered within its walls… And then it had Tom Hiddleston, so it was a super win-win.
The other two movies we got were Angry Birds – which I thought was cute – and Batman Vs Superman – which was okay. I didn’t find it “too dark” by any means – in fact it wasn’t half as dark as the Dark Knight series of Batman with Christian Bale – so I have no idea what people were complaining about. What I did find it was disjointed and choppy. Characters did things without having logical motivation to do them (even though the things were necessary for them to do). For instance, Lois dives under the water for the spear – why? No one told her they needed it – elsewhere Superman and Batman are sort of saying they will need it, but there’s no way she could hear them. That she jumps to the same conclusion as them seems a bit of a stretch. There were several other instances of this. I realize it’s done for time, but it took the believability away for me. I also wasn’t impressed with Wonder Woman, like everyone else was. I’m sorry, but she’s not bulky enough; she’s too waifish. She doesn;t seem imposing in any way, and all the reviewers carrying on about how great it was to see a woman not as a sex symbol… um, where??? 90% of her appearances are her in a skimpy cocktail dress, looking sexy, and flirting with Batman. I was really disappointed, especially after everyone else had raved about it. But, over all, it was good. Ok. It had Henry Cavill. Shirtless. Heck, even dressed, he has those gorgeous eyes… so… yeah. Let’s just say Superman has never been my cup of tea until very recently and leave it at that. 😉
And now it’s five in the morning so I need to get to bed. Have a Tom Hiddleston & Henry Cavill kinda day!
