Trains…

Yesterday we were out and about with my uncle Dave. First we went to the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs which, by the way, is free, so if you’re in the area you should check it out. It had some really neat displays and interactive content.

The first floor is the history of the transcontinental railroad and general railroad history. There was a lot of neat stuff. I’m going to try to label the images with captions, so we’ll see how this works.

The second floor had exhibits that covered the 50s to modern times, including a train driving simulation and some other things.

The building itself was really cool, too, by the way.

After that we went to a really tasty restaurant just down from the museum. I had the fajitas and can highly recommend 🙂 Hubby had the chimichanga and the others had enchiladas.

Then we went to the Rails West museum which was more like the museums I used to go to as a kid, fewer flashy displays but more actual stuff.

Outside are two train engines and some cars with original interiors. There were two engines, one was a coal burner and the other had been converted to oil. There were two caboose, though we could only go inside the newer one. There was also a club car – it is the one that has all the woodwork, the kitchen, dining area, and solarium. And there was a mail car that was pretty interesting. There was also a box car and another passenger car that we could not go in. I can’t label the photos because the app is acting up. Probably because it can’t handle all these photos.

And that was our day yesterday. Hope everyone else’s was just as interesting! This would have posted long ago but it has taken literally two hours to do this because the app keeps freezing. Annoying!

Have a non freezing app kinda day!

Jo 🙂
