It’s Alive!

I don’t remember if I posted photos or not, but my roses had a mysterious malady.

image

That’s from early on. I tried a bunch of green, friendly remedies and by the fourth of July I had about six black, pockmarked leaves left.

image

The guys at Earl May said it was a fungus and sold me 30$ worth of spray. A month later, I am happy to report that it worked!!!

image

Not only are the leaves back and beautiful, but it finally flowered – which it hasn’t done since June.
Though it was the worst effected, all the roses except the brand new ones were in bad shape. The yellow rose was another one I was afraid of losing but…

image

It has a bloom too! Yes, I have now learned a valuable lesson: screw home remedies, just go for the real stuff to start with.
And now I have to get up at five a.m. – for a surprise – so I’m off to bed.
Have a good one!
Jo 🙂

Pretty Flowers

So, a couple weeks ago we went to Omaha for the weekend, planning to go to the botanical gardens, because I wanted to take pictures of pretty flowers. A rainy day later, we went to the zoo, however, I have scavenged a few flower photos here and there, so I thought I’d share the springy-ness.

Hmmmmm. They’ve changed the way galleries are inserted. Luckily I figured it out. Yay! Behold, the gallery!

And last but not least, look what sprung up next to my garage, now that we got all that mess out of there:

image

The bleeding hearts are noteworthy because I have ALWAYS wanted some. When I was a wee lass, my grandparents lived in the country and next to their front porch steps were… You guessed it… Bleeding hearts. Since then I’ve wanted some but I’m not exactly green thumbed. So, to have some established is awesome! It has, however, change my plans to gut that flower bed and start over. Oh well.
As for today, another computerless day, so I cleaned, then hubby and I went shopping. Good times.
Speaking of good times, have a good one!
Jo 🙂

Photos: Flowers

I said yesterday that it would be the last scheduled blog, but I lied. I am waiting for Mum to finish her emails so we can get back to Sherlock and since I have time I might as well finish up the last of the flickr photos – meaning I am now all caught up. Yay! No, not caught up with uploading them, but with blogging them. I’ll never be done uploading. I still have 80% of 2012 to get through some day, which is gonna suck because there’s a bunch of the in-laws when we went on a trip that January and since they’ve both passed on now…anyway, onward.

As this posts I should be in Iowa, and as you read it I will probably be safely ensconced in the new house. Oh no, not moved in by any means. Instead I will be staring at what is sure to be weeks’ worth of cleaning and painting. I doubt we can get it all done in a month but I am damned well going to give it a try. Depending on what time you read this I might even be doing some of said cleaning or else helping install bathroom flooring – we got a good deal on some remnant rolls from Lowe’s and so thought “what the heck” between youtube and how-to pages we can surely manage rolled linoleum. Other people do. Turns out, though, that we’ll need to replace the upstairs’ bathroom floor too. It’s going to have to wait a bit, as is the kitchen floor. The next floor in line is the laundry room/utility porch, but it has it’s own set of challenges as it needs built up and such. I’m sure we can do it. My grandmother could have done it, and if she could, I could, genetically speaking.

Anyway, photos. Just random flowers from May. Enjoy.

And that’s it for now. Have a good one.wpid-signature.png

Photos: Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park – Springfield MO

How’s that for a specific title? yeah, so I googled it and copied the official name. Fancy, huh?

If all had gone according to plan I would be heading to Villisca, or in Villisca, as you read this (unless you read it before noon in which case I am sleeping). But thanks to the inspection electric/gas debacle I’m not. What am I talking about? We bought the house. We paid for the house. We took possession of the house. Then we tried to get gas/water/electric switched on on Thursday. But no. Oh no. You can’t do that because it must first be inspected – AGAIN – to prove – AGAIN – that the electric and gas is all hunky dory – AGAIN – despite the fact that this was done during the due diligence period. because our inspector did not give us these handy little cards swearing some oath on pain of dismemberment that everything was fine. Meaning we have to hire inspectors – AGAIN – to have those inspected. The electric company has someone they prefer (*cough*) but the gas company? They have no idea because they’re in CEDAR RAPIDS! Yes, we had that same gas company when we lived in Mt. Pleasant! Talk about nuts! And with it being the Fourth of July weekend, well, no one is going to do anything until Monday. Isn’t that jolly?

Anyway, photos. Spring was late this year and so though I thought we’d be too late for most of the flowers we were too early – nothing but Hyacinths and daffodils. I still managed to take a ton of photos though because I’m good like that.

As always there are more on flickr.

have a good one and enjoy your beds! wpid-signature.png

Yes, here are MORE flower photos! Oh wow, huh? I actually got caught by a neighbor taking these and we had a discussion on whether I was a painter or not. Apparently her niece was one and she would wander around and take her own reference photographs and the neighbor would say “That’s not a pretty picture” and her niece would tell her “You just wait till I get it done” and sure enough, they always were beautiful when she finished them.

New Photos – Ducky Pond Take 2

I know. Three new blogs in a row. Time for a heart attack.

Another trip to the ducky pond, as I affectionately call Dunnigan Park.  Yes, I think everything needs nicknamed. However, I am not into really original nicknames, so it’s pretty much what they sound like.
